BCIT Trades Discovery Program ~ Information Sessions – If you are interested in a Career in the Trades, but unsure of your focus area of study, consider the Trades Discovery program.  This program is designed to allow participants to sample the available trades and technical training at BCIT campuses.  Students gain hands-on experience in approximately 15 different trades disciplines in a BCIT Trades Discovery Program. Some examples of activities are: lay out and fabrication, general piping, framing, welding, wiring and working on mechanical systems in automobiles, aircraft, and heavy equipment.  Students will be trained and certified in the following:

  • HILTI Powder Actuated Tool
  • Lift Truck Operator (forklift training)
  • WCB Occupational First Aid Level One
  • Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS)

Students will explore a variety of programs from the following sectors:

  • Construction
  • Mechanical
  • Transportation
  • Manufacturing

APR 11/18 – University of Alberta Registration 101 sessions in VancouverThe University of Alberta will be in Vancouver to help students who have received an admission offer prepare for their first year of studies. Students will learn how to register use Bear Tracks, and how to design their schedule. This will take place at the 4 Seasons Hotel in Vancouver. The Science Session is from 9 – 11 am, and the General Session is from 11:30 – 1:30 pm. Students can reserve their seat by completing the RSVP online at: uab.ca/reg101

APR 29/18 – Vancouver International Universities Fair 2018 The Vancouver International Universities Fair is returning to Vancouver this coming Spring. Visit with representatives from around the world on Sunday, April 29, 2018 (from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.). Close to 200 university representatives from all over the world will be available to answer questions about program offerings, the application process, tuition fees and more! All grades/parents are invited to attend. Location: Vancouver Convention Centre, in downtown Vancouver. A highlight of this event…’free’ information sessions! MAY 10/18  Largara Nursing Information Session – Interested in becoming a nurse? Learn more about Langara’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at the upcoming information session.  This event is hosted by Langara’s School of Nursing and a representative from the Admissions office, this is a great opportunity to learn more about the profession of Nursing in general, as well as specifics about Langara’s BSN program. MAY 23/18 JIBC 40th Anniversary Open House & Career Fair – The Justice Institute of British Columbia will celebrate its 40th Anniversary in 2018. JIBC is a public post-secondary institution that offers education and training in the fields of law enforcement, firefighting, paramedicine, corrections, emergency management, leadership, conflict resolution and other related disciplines. Everyone is invited to the upcoming Open House event…prepare for a career in public safety.

Event highlights: 

  • Public address by JIBC President & CEO, Dr. Michel Tarko 1 p.m.
  • Visit the career fair in the gymnasium between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m.
  • Speak with recruiters from various public safety fields and learn what it takes to be competitive in these careers
  • Watch one of our presentations in the theatre to learn about the many JIBC programs available in law enforcement, paramedicine, firefighting, conflict resolution, leadership and more
